Jack Abrams STEM Students Make an Impact

October 24, 2025

Each year one goal of the House System at Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School is to provide a service learning opportunity for students and their families at the school’s annual Color Run.

This past year at the Color Run, Jack Abrams School students came together to support the larger Huntington/Suffolk community, raising money for organizations selected by the youngsters themselves.

Last year, House Amistad chose to raise money for the local Make a Wish Foundation. Here’s an excerpt from a message sent to Principal Donna Moro, thanking the students for their effort and attesting to the impact the gesture had in real life terms.

“I wanted to connect about Jack Abrams’ incredible impact on local wish kids last year through your school fundraisers,” the message read. “Thanks to your support, we helped grant 635 wishes for children across New York, a truly inspiring achievement!”

Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School students and their families are generous to a fault. So generous that were able to reach well beyond the schools walls and grounds to help those truly in need.

“Your support helps grant wishes for kids like Connor, a 14-year-old boy from Suffolk diagnosed with an inflammatory disorder,” read the message to Ms. Moro. “Connor is a

huge animal lover and aspires to be a veterinarian at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Because of Connor’s future aspirations, he wished to have an experience with the zoologists who care for the animals at Animal Kingdom! Connor’s wish for knowledge and fun was granted when Connor and his family went to Walt Disney World and had a special day learning how to care for all his favorite animals at Animal Kingdom.”

The related photo shows Connor feeding an Ankole cattle. “Connor’s wish was amazing,” his mom wrote in the message. “He loved it and got a bunch of information on what programs to join and where to get a job at Disney to be a zookeeper!”

Jack Abrams School students are making a difference in the world and they love doing it.
