Unity Month Celebrated at Washington Primary School

October 24, 2025

Washington Primary School celebrates October as Unity Month annually. Students are able to earn “Unity Wolfies” when they demonstrate various acts of Unity.

“Each week is a new challenge; helping others clean up their work and eating spaces; encouraging others to do their best; including others in recess; and acts of appreciation, gratitude and support” Principal Dr. Michelle Richards explained.

Students met the challenge head on and went out of their way in serving others and saying and doing all the right things. If you happen to be wondering, Wolfie is the school mascot.

The Principal’s Book of the Month for October is “I Am We: A Book of Community.” Dr. Richards visited classrooms and read segments of the book to students.

“Every day is Unity Day at Washington; however, for the month of October our theme is Unity,” Dr. Richards said. “Washington Winners wrote what Unity looks like on leaves and created our Unity tree.”

The entire experience was both educational and fun and students embraced it in a variety of ways. The youngsters promoted kindness at every turn. They learned what constitutes bullying and were encouraged to stand up to it should it ever rear its head anywhere. The students especially excelled at encouraging others to strive to be the best version of themselves.

Orange is the color most associated with Unity Day and Unity Month and Washington students embraced that, too, with many decked out in orange shirts.
