Huntington Trio Named National Merit Commended Students

October 24, 2025

Huntington High School’s Jordana Boxer, Rachel Huth and Jaipreet Singh have been recognized as being among the top seniors in the United States by the National Merit Scholarship Corp.

Each of the three Huntington scholars was named a National Merit “Commended Student.” They are among about 34,000 seniors to be so designated. Principal Rochelle C. Brown shared the good news on Thursday morning.

“Last year, Huntington High School had one student recognized, so it’s wonderful to see that number grow to three this year,” Ms. Brown said. “My team and I remain focused on strong instruction and on motivating our students to show up and be their best selves — and it’s clear that effort is paying off. I’m especially proud of these three students, who demonstrate excellence both in and out of the classroom, whether it’s through marching band, robotics, or science research.”

The National Merit Scholarship Corp. said Commended Students such as the Huntington High School trio “represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.”

All three of the students are deeply involved in advanced classes, clubs and sports. They’ve all excelled across the board and will graduate near the top of the Class of 2026.

“I am incredibly proud of our outstanding students, Jordana, Rachel and Jaipreet for earning the distinction of National Merit Scholar,” Superintendent Beth McCoy said. “Their achievement reflects years of dedication, curiosity, and perseverance, qualities that embody the very best of the Huntington Union Free School District. This recognition is not only a testament to their individual effort, but also to the support of their families, teachers, and school community. We can’t wait to see all that they will accomplish in the future.”
