Blue Devil Girls’ Volleyball Rallies for Dig Pink Game

October 7, 2025

The Huntington High School girls’ volleyball program will host a Dig Pink game on Wednesday (October 8) to increase awareness of breast cancer and to raise funds to fight the insidious disease. The Blue Devils will battle visiting North Babylon at 5 p.m. The JV teams will play at 6:45 p.m.

“The Huntington girls’ volleyball program is excited to host a Dig Pink volleyball game,” head coach Jake Torres said. “The mission of the fundraiser is to raise awareness and support in the fight against breast cancer. Dig Pink gives us the chance to play for something bigger than the sport of volleyball. The Dig Pink game is played to honor and remember all those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.”

A ”dig” is a common action in volleyball. It’s when a player returns an especially hard-hit and difficult to reach ball from an opponent, including a spike or tip and makes the ball playable for their team.

Dig Pink games have become increasingly popular on Long Island and around the country. It’s a community service project that has been embraced by players, coaches and communities.

The Blue Devil roster consists of Emily Barba, Amelia Carino, Khi Casey, Kymora Dorvilus, Maddy Falk, Gabby Jones, Manpreet Kaur, Olivia Koiyet, Nallely Linares, Mackenzie McKay, Mia Miller, Ella Palatnek, Dakota Respass, Karina Rodriguez, Melanie Rodriguez, Jocelyn Thorbourne and Ana Vlahos.

The team will be selling baked goods after school this week and food and refreshments on game day on Wednesday. “All of the money that is raised will be donated to the Islip Breast Cancer Coalition,” Torres said.
