Mitek & Golden Pace Huntington Field Hockey to Victory

The Blue Devil varsity field hockey team has won five of its last six games, including a 2-0 shutout of visiting Centereach last Friday night at Alumni Field.

The recent streak has included wins over Commack (5-0), Bay Shore/Islip (1-0), Riverhead (1-0), Half Hollow Hills (4-0) and Centereach. The only loss during the stretch came at home to Walt Whitman, 3-2. The game saw Huntington rally from a three goal deficit.
Coached by Kathy Wright and Allison Conlon, Huntington has regular season games remaining with Lindenhurst, North Baylon, Ward Melville, Northport and Connetquot.
The Blue Devils scored twice in the first period against Centereach and made the advantage hold up as the two teams went scoreless the rest of the way.
Caroline Mitek and Norah Golden both tallied one goal and one assist. Katie Cocoman had three saves in the cage. It was the senior’s sixth shutout of the fall.
Mitek leads the Blue Devils with 12 goals and four assists, including a season high four goals and an assist against Copiague and three goals and an assist against Commack.
Golden has notched two goals and four assists. Cocoman has 61 saves this season in 10 games. Cocoman stopped a season high 15 shots against Walt Whitman. The Blue Devils are now 6-4.
