Huntington Foundation Donates $51K for Teacher Grants

The Huntington Foundation for Excellence in Education has donated $51,480.40 to Huntington UFSD to fund 12 separate grant requests submitted by teachers and evaluated by Huntington Foundation officials.

The donation was accepted by the Huntington School Board during a public meeting on Monday night at Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School. The monies were generated during recent fundraising, primary a success gala in March.

The Huntington Foundation solicited grant applications from district faculty members. The following grants were approved and funded”

• Art Department Shared iPads & iPencils (Huntington High School/Teachers: Pamela Piffard-Williams, Kristin Singer): 14 sets of iPads and iPencils ($8,810.00)

• Empowering Innovation: Advancing STEM Education with New VEX IQ Robotics Hardware (J. Taylor Finley Middle School/Teachers Tara Vatske, Mary Brandt): Robotics Club VEX IQ Classroom Bundles (2nd generation) ($5,299.98)

• Hydro-Greenhouse  (Huntington High School/Teacher: Kevene Lowrie): Various greenhouse supplies including a programmable smart thermostat, solar-powered irrigation system, planters, shelving, and more ($3,129.23)

• Whiteboard Table Resurfacing (Flower Hill Primary School/Teachers Veronica Quinlan, Allison Conlon, Glenn Edwards): Three (3) Whiteboard table surfaces ($733.20)

• Fabrication & Innovation Center: 3D Printer (Huntington High School/ Teacher Omar Santiago): One (1) Dremel 3D printer ($2,171.41)

• Virtual Enterprise Creation Lab for Business Department (Huntington High School/Teacher Bryan Outsen): Auto Heat Press Machine, Cricut Machine with Everything Bundle, 10 sets of iPads & iPencils with cases and wall charging box, All-in-One Printer & ink ($4,512.15)

• Hands-On Task Boxes (Flower Hill Primary School/Teacher Suzanne Giuliani):15 Basic Skills Task Assortment A, 15 Basic Task Assortment B, 11 Phonics Notebook Task Sets, 11 Early math Notebook Task Sets ($3,111.80)

• Regulation Station (Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School/Teachers Debra Lawrence, Colleen Simko, Linda Malloy): Various sensory items that may include weighted blanket, fluff chair, bean bag chair, ocean wave projector, mini-trampoline, carpet and/or rug, tent, sensory path, visual timers, co-motion fabric, weighted caterpillar, regulation posters ($2,850.00)

• Huntington High School Greenhouse Development (Huntington High School/Teacher Sarah Hall): Automatic greenhouse watering system, internal shade cloth, 10 indoor plant fixtures, greenhouse metal work bench ($1,647.40)

• Lego STEM Education (J. Taylor Finley Middle School/Teacher Carmen DiBartolomeo): 10 Lego Education SPIKE Prime sets ($3,999.50)

• Woodhull Intermediate's Zen Garden Flexible Seating (Woodhull Intermediate School/Teachers Mallory Travers, Mary Guzman-Lewis, Catherine Juliano and Anel Tineo): Out2Learn large outdoor curved bench, indoor/outdoor dew drop bean bag chair, moon chair, buddy bench ($8,628.55)

• Sensory Space (Flower Hill Primary School/Teachers Margaret Connors, Yafit Lucas): Various sensory items including deep pressure mat, crash pit with floor mat, rocking barrel, folding wedge, color changing light cube, activity mat, stepping stones for kids, bean bag seat, sensory tent, galaxy projector, fiber optic sensory lights, mini-trampoline, sensory tunnel, color changing infinity mirror ($6,587.18)
