Finley Boys’ Tennis Swings to Winning Record
July 16, 2025
The J. Taylor Finley Middle School boys’ tennis team battled its way to a winning record against some very good competition this past spring. Coached by Andrew Marcy and captained by Matthew Krull, the squad included 26 players.
Krull led Finley with a record of 7-2 in No. 1 singles. “Matthew dominated the field and earned himself the title of ‘Finley’s top player’ for the duration of the season,” Dr. Marcy said. “We are looking forward to next season when Matthew can play against some tough competition at the high school.”
The large turnout included 16 eighth graders and 10 seventh graders. “Our biggest accomplishment was to finish the season with a winning record,” Dr. Marcy said. “The boys worked hard and wholeheartedly wanted the best out of each other.”
Finley topped Nesaquake (7-0), Hauppauge (5-2), Stimson (6-1), Elwood (7-0) and East Northport (6-1) and fell to Northport (6-1), Commack (6-1), Accompsett (5-2) and Oldfield (6-1).
Dr. Marcy is a science teacher at Finley. He also coaches boys’ soccer. He has worked hard to build interest in tennis at the school.
“This team had numerous first year players,” Dr. Marcy said. “The best part about this team was how much they loved and wanted to play and compete with each other. They worked together to make sure they competed as a high level. Next season should be another competitive year as many seventh graders will be returning.”
