Huntington’s Advanced Placement Participation Grows

Huntington High School students continue to reach new heights academically, increasingly challenging themselves by taking Advanced Placement courses and improving their scores on these tough exams.

In the latest school year, 450 Huntington students sat for 1,110 AP exams with 379 students or 84.22 percent of the test-takers notching a score of 3 or higher. Just one year earlier 403 students took 876 AP exams with 307 or 76.18 percent scoring at a level of 3 or higher.

By comparison, in 2021, 347 students took 781 AP exams with 244 or 70.32 percent scoring a 3 or better.

The number of Advanced Placement Scholars and associated honorees has also grown from 122 in 2021 to 175 in 2025.

In the school year that ended last month, Huntington UFSD had 83 AP Scholars; 33 AP Scholars with Honor; 58 AP Scholars with Distinction; 11 AP Capstone Diploma recipients and 4 AP Seminar and Research Certificate recipients.

The 175 AP Scholars and honorees are able to boast of an average AP exam score of 3.56, which is a five year high.

Here is the criteria for each of the Advanced Placement award designations:

AP Scholar: Granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.

AP Scholar with Honor: Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

AP Scholar with Distinction: Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

AP Capstone Diploma: Granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on 4 additional AP Exams of their choosing.

AP Seminar and Research Certificate: Granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in both AP Seminar and AP Research.
