Huntington Booster Club Presents $4,000 in Scholarships

July 7, 2025

The Huntington Booster Club presented four graduating seniors with $1,000 sportsmanship scholarship awards. This year’s recipients are all distinguished in their own right and have been goodwill ambassadors for Huntington High School and the Blue Devils while remaining determined competitors.

This year’s honorees include Jenna Italiano, Elizabeth James, Carlos Marroquin and Joseph Boeckmann.

The four scholarships were presented at the 57th Blue Devil senior athletic awards ceremony.

“We would like to express our appreciation to the Huntington Booster Club for its exceptional support of the Blue Devil athletic program this year,” said Michael Schwendemann, master of ceremonies. “The organization has again awarded thousands of dollars in grants covering multiple male and female teams. The group works closely with the athletic office and coaches to enhance the program offered to Huntington students.”

The Booster Club’s annual sportsmanship scholarship award recognizes spectacular graduating seniors for their “honesty, fair play and teamwork.” Nominations are solicited from Blue Devil varsity coaches.

Huntington Booster Club President Dave Evans, Treasurer Wayne Ackerman, Secretary Sue Fallon and Special Projects, Events & Camps Coordinator Bridget Vohs were all on hand for the presentation before a crowd of more than 300.

Ms. Italiano will be attending Molloy University while Ms. James plans to attend Hofstra University. Mr. Marroquin is headed to Suffolk Community College and Mr. Boeckmann intends to study at the University of South Carolina at Columbia.

The Booster Club derives its income from the sale of banners affixed to the fence surrounding Blue Devil Stadium; concessions at large athletic events, summer camps and individual and corporate donations. A fall fundraiser at the American Legion in Halesite is planned.
