January 28, 2025

Why choose to study Spanish? The newest members of Huntington High School’s Spanish Honor Society have many practical and personal reasons to master the language. The reasons were shared with the crowd attending the society’s recent induction ceremony.

Juliet Johnson has been learning Spanish since kindergarten so she can become completely bilingual. The freshman continues to study the language so she can use it in a future career and around the community. She’s devoted to Spanish and thankful to have had an opportunity to learn it.

Iliana Jarmolowski said she’s “very grateful” to have had the opportunity to learn Spanish since kindergarten. She plans to use it in the future, including while traveling, especially during a college semester abroad.

Amani Huq enjoys learning Spanish and studying the cultures of Spanish speaking countries. She hopes to speak it well enough to communicate with people who only speak Spanish.

Giselle Avelar Romero is an alum of the district’s dual language program. She grew up speaking Spanish at home and uses the language whenever she travels to her parent’s home country of El Salvador.

Angel Menjivar’s love to Spanish comes from his family roots. He was taught Spanish from a very young age, which has allowed him to communicate with those around him. He desires to continue nurturing his love “for this magnificent language” as he hopes to live in Spain in the near future.

Ashley Moreno is studying Spanish because it helps her connect with more people and understand diverse cultures, especially since she comes from a Spanish-speaking family, which makes the language even more meaningful for her. She plans to use her Spanish speaking skills in a future career as a lawyer.

Julian Canales enjoys learning Spanish because he likes studying about the culture of Spanish speaking countries. He plans to use Spanish to speak to the people closest to him who only know Spanish, including his grandparents.

Emma Marsala loves learning new languages and hopes to become completely fluent in Spanish. She believes that knowing the language will open her up to a lot of opportunities and help her become a better communicator.
