New Staff Excited for H-ton Flag Football Season

January 22, 2025

Huntington High School’s four girls’ flag football coaches can’t wait for the season to start on Monday, March 17. The staff is looking forward to it so much that a series of after school intramurals is planned during the pre-season.

The Blue Devil varsity will be led by head coach Malcolm Eugene and assistant coach Anthony McDonald. Huntington will also field a JV team for the first time ever. Antoine Swain will serve as the JV team’s head coach with Patrick Reilly in the assistant coach position.

All four staff members have played and coached football. Each of them is excited and all four are expecting success on the field. The Blue Devil varsity is returning almost its entire starting lineup and there are some exciting newcomers joining the program, too.

The Blue Devil varsity opens the season on March 27 at Commack. There are 16 varsity games scheduled in all with eight at home and eight on the road. In addition to Commack, Huntington will suit up against Bay Shore, William Floyd, Smithtown, Sachem North, Copiague, Northport, Sachem East, North Babylon, Lindenhurst, Half Hollow Hills, Patchogue, Longwood, Connetquot, Walt Whitman and Ward Melville.

The varsity schedule includes a pair of Saturday games at Blue Devil Stadium on March 29 against Bay Shore and April 26 against Half Hollow Hills. Game time for both contests is 12 noon. The game at Ward Melville will start at 6 p.m.

The JV team’s schedule features eight games evenly split between home and away. The Huntington JV will open at home on Saturday, April 5 against West Islip at 12 noon. The Blue Devils will also play JV home games on Saturday, April 12 against North Babylon, Saturday May 3 against Patchogue and Saturday, May 10 against Harborfields. All will start at 12 noon.

The JV plays away games at Sayville, Hauppauge, Half Hollow Hills and Walt Whitman.

The varsity and JV will use a practice field behind the building and play games on both the Blue Devil Stadium and Alumni Field turf fields.

Students should seek out Coach Eugene to indicate their interest in coming out for either the varsity or JV teams. Send an email to him at meugene@hufsd.edu.
