Five Blue Devil players earned spots on the All-State girls’ lacrosse team after a memorable season that saw Huntington High School win Suffolk and Long Island championships.
Jolie Weinschreider, Sabrina Boyle, Grace Gordon, Ava McDonald and Valentina Puccio were all named All-State. Four of the five lacrosse stars are returning to the field for the Blue Devils. Boyle graduated in June and was recruited to play at Binghamton University.
“Being named All-State is such an honor and I’m incredibly proud to represent my school,” Weinschreider said. “Every practice, every game, every moment, we gave it our all for each other. This season was unforgettable and I am beyond grateful to my coaches and teammates who pushed me every day!”
Weinschreider, Gordon and Puccio are all headed into their senior year. McDonald is a junior. Weinschreider has given a verbal commitment to play lacrosse to Rutgers University. Gordon has committed to Lafayette College and Puccio has given a commitment to Hofstra University.
“I’m incredibly honored to be named All-State along with my amazing teammates,” Puccio said. “This recognition means a lot to me and I’m grateful to my coaches, teammates and support from the Huntington community. I couldn’t have achieved this without the hard work and dedication of everyone around me.”
Huntington finished with an 18-3 mark, topping Ward Melville for the Suffolk title and beating back a still challenge from Massapequa for the Long Island crown.
“Hours of hard work in the off season made it possible,” Boyle said. “The accomplishment came with the help of my teammates, coaches and family. The championship team this past season was filled with tons of stars who deserve to shine in all different ways and I’ll forever be grateful to have captained such a talented and determined group of athletes.”
McDonald earned her All-State honors as one of New York’s best defensive players. “Being named All-State is truly an honor, but I think it all started with the standard my teammates and coaches set for me every single day,” she said. “The accountability we held for one another and the way we pushed each other to grow, is what made this possible. This recognition is as much theirs as it is to the five of us that received this honor.”
