Blue Devil Girls’ Swimmers are Undefeated
September 18, 2025
Huntington High School’s varsity girls’ swimmers are off to a great start to the season, winning three consecutive meets without a loss.
The Blue Devils are the host for what Section XI calls a “super team.” The collaboration includes Walt Whitman, Harborfields and John H. Glenn.
The team spent the early weeks of the season practicing outdoors at the Huntington Bay Club and the Centerport Yacht Club. The swimmers and divers have since settled into their longtime home at the Huntington YMCA.
Huntington is coached by Meg McConnell and Christopher Helmke. Both have coached the Blue Devils for many years. The team is one of the best in Suffolk and will challenge for the county championship.
The roster includes Patti Abruzzo, Gemma Bedell, Alison Hahn, Avery Joynt, Sena Knopf, Riley Lewis, Campbell Proctor, Lauren Reed, Lena Sullivan, Ella Van Horn and Caitlin Wedielnik.
The Blue Devils have defeated Half Hollow Hills/Kings Park, Central Islip and Northport/Commack. Most Section XI teams are comprised of multi-school combinations.
Huntington’s next two meets are against county contender Hauppauge/Smithtown and Deer Park/North Babylon/West Babylon.
The Blue Devil roster features five freshmen, one sophomore, five juniors and no seniors. Huntington hopes to continue being counted among Suffolk’s finest for many years to come.
