Caroline Mitek Paces Blue Devil Field Hockey

Junior Caroline Mitek scored three goals and added an assist to pace the Huntington varsity field hockey to a 5-0 victory over visiting league foe Commack.
Named one of Newsday’s Top 50 field hockey players on Long Island, Mitek is a talented forward to hopes to play the sport in college. Her performance against Commack gives her seven goals and three assists in the first five games this fall.
The Blue Devils opened a 2-0 lead in the first quarter and extended the advantage to 4-0 by halftime. Huntington added another goal in the third quarter and coasted the rest of the way.
Norah Golden and Alexa Wasoski also scored goals for the Blue Devils. Ava Bencivenga had a pair of assists. Eighth grader Charlotte Kindelmann also assisted on a goal.
Commack goalie Meghan DeLairro was sharp despite the loss, stopping 21 blistering shots. Goalie Vader Renkewitz recorded a save for Huntington.
The team is coached by Kathy Wright and Allison Conlon and volunteer assistant Ellyn Byrnes. The roster also includes Bella Bernzweig, Katie Cocoman, Francesca D’Eloia, Shea Gilroy, Cassidy Harris, Sophie Hoffman, Luisa Mackey, Elliot Manu, Shelby Meystrik, Maya Schneider, Greenlee Stanford, Abigail Uvena and Sofia Van Arsdale. Riley Murtagh is the team manager.
Huntington is striving to make the playoffs this fall. There are 10 regular season games remaining during which the Blue Devils hope to prove they belong in the post-season.
