September 16, 2025
The Huntington Blue Devil marching band captured first place at its season opening competition at Brentwood last weekend.
Andre Rizzuto leads the band as its director. Cole Lima, Lily Wasoski and Dana Saramago are this year’s drum majors.
“The band is in a great place at the moment and we will continue to transcend in this direction to become the best edition of the 2025 HBDMB,” Mr. Rizzuto said. “I’m so proud of all the hard work our students and stuff dedicate to this show and organization.”
On Saturday, the band marching in the Huntington Unity Day parade, which stretched from Huntington High School to Henry L. Stimson Middle School on Oakwood Road.
“The band is coming along very well as the music and drill is becoming more put together every rehearsal,” Mr. Lima said.
The next competition is scheduled for next Sunday at Copiague. Additional competitions will follow leading to the state championship in late October.
“The band is looking great,” Ms. Saramago said. “This is a great place to be at the beginning of the season! I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to the competitive part of the 2025 season. I’m looking forward to making our show and performing again next weekend.”
Rehearsals will continue throughout the week in the run-up to Sunday’s competition at Copiague, which has traditionally fielded one of New York’s top bands.
While Huntington garnered first place last weekend, the drum majors all see a further upside to just how good the band could be by the end of October.
“The band has definitely improved in the last month,” Ms. Wasoski said. “Since band camp, we’ve been working really hard in rehearsals so that we can have a great show, although we definitely have a lot of room to really grow and improve! I’m very excited for the next month and a half. I think if we keep working as hard as we have been that we definitely are going to have a very good season.”
