Not Too Early for Seniors to Apply for Scholarships

September 12, 2025

It’s not too early for Huntington High School seniors to be thinking about college scholarship opportunities or even to apply for one or more scholarships. In fact, some have very early deadlines; as early as next Monday morning.

With the cost of college always on the increase, most seniors are searching for potential scholarships that could shave some or all tuition costs. The New York State Excelsior Scholarship covers all tuition costs for eligible students attending a SUNY or CUNY college or university. The Gates Scholarship covers all costs including tuition, room, board, books and fees.

Here is more information on both of these scholarships:

With the New York State Excelsior Scholarship, eligible students can attend a SUNY or CUNY college or university tuition free! In order to apply, students must meet eligibility requirements, including (but not limited to):

Selected scholars will receive funding for the full cost of attendance to earn a bachelor’s degree that is not already covered by other financial aid as determined by FAFSA. Costs include tuition, fees, books, and housing and food and may include additional personal costs.

Eligibility requirements: High school senior, Pell-eligible, US citizen or permanent resident, good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
