Huntington Homecoming Day on Saturday, September 27
September 11, 2025
Planning is well underway for the Huntington School District’s Homecoming Day celebration on Saturday, September 27. The preceding days will be filled with special events, including a bonfire and festival, float building, pep rally and a girls’ and boys’ soccer doubleheader.
Saturday’s festivities will include the traditional late morning parade down Main Street through the heart of Huntington village and up New York Avenue to the Big H Shopping Center and along Holdsworth Drive into the school parking lot.
The entire school community is invited to participate in the parade, which will be led by the Blue Devil marching band. Hundreds of students, parents and teachers from every grade level participated in last year’s march through the village. Free shuttle bus service will be available between the high school parking lot and the town lot on Gerard Street.
The Blue Devil football team will take the field against Centereach at 1 p.m. for the weekend’s centerpiece athletic event. Halftime festivities will include musical and artistic performances by the Huntington Blue Devil marching band and the Highsteppers dance team.
A festival and bonfire are set for Thursday, September 25 in the high school parking field. There will be food, games, performances and a spectacular bonfire in the parking field.
The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. All Huntington UFSD students and their families are invited to attend. There will be food, games and performances.
The bonfire is a throwback to yesteryear. Such events were common in the 1930s and 1940s when Huntington High School was located in the building that now serves as Town Hall. The high school used Heckscher Park for its large scale events and outdoor athletic games.
Dozens of school clubs and organizations are expected to participate in the Thursday night festival. Tables for participants will be set up on either side of the parking lot. Many will use the opportunity to raise monies to support their activities. The Huntington Booster Club’s apparel trailer will also be parked nearby.
Friday will feature the construction of four class floats along with an afternoon pep rally at Blue Devil Stadium. A girls’ and boys’ soccer doubleheader is planned for Friday with a girls’ game against Walt Whitman at 4 p.m. followed by a boys’ game against Northport at 6:45 p.m.
Student government representatives are helping to organize events, including the bonfire and festival.
“It going to be a great week culminating with Homecoming Day on Saturday, September 27,” Superintendent Beth McCoy said. “The entire school community is invited to participate and join in on the fun.”
