Women’s Empowerment Club Mobilizes for Breast Cancer Awareness

October 31, 2025

All through October,  Huntington High School’s Women’s Empowerment Club has been observing Breast Cancer Awareness Month by encouraging staff and students to wear Pink every Wednesday throughout the month.

“Pink symbolizes more than femininity; it represents comfort, healing, and hope,” Sara Guagliano, who along with Jacqueline Thomann serves as the club’s faculty advisor. “The breast cancer movement extends beyond fundraising and finding a cure—it emphasizes prevention, education, and ensuring equitable treatment for all individuals, regardless of gender or socioeconomic status.”

The Women’s Empowerment Club’s executive board consists of Bella Bernzweig (president), Gabriela Genao (vice president), Emma Gutierrez (secretary) and public relations coordinators Darcy Rimkunas and Iliana Jarmolowski.

On October 29, the final day of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the club decorated the main lobby in pink and handed out breast cancer ribbons. Additionally, the club created an infographic to help educate the school community about breast cancer and address any misconceptions.

The club’s mission is centered around four “pillars of empowerment,” including education and awareness, confidence and self-worth, leadership and global citizenship.

The Women’s Empowerment Club meets weekly on Mondays from 2:30-3:00 p.m. in room 114. It is open to all students in the building.
