Jacob Guzik Passes Huntington Past Bellport, 42-21

Jacob Guzik completed 13-of-15 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns and Yasir Jones rushed 20 times for 126 yards and two touchdowns to carry the Huntington football team to a 42-21 victory over Bellport at Blue Devil Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Clippers scored in the first 40 seconds of the game when quarterback Braydon Cipp broke through the line into open field and raced 57 yards for a touchdown. The ensuing kickoff brought the Blue Devil Stadium crowd to its feet when Gevonne Henderson sprinted 95 yards down the left sideline to tie the score less than one minute into the game.

Huntington led 21-14 at halftime, but opened a three touchdown lead in the second half to put the game out of reach. Jones scored touchdowns on runs covering five and nine yards. Jack Kamenstein caught eight passes for 131 yards and touchdowns of 19 and 23 yards. Chase Northrop also scored on a 37 yard touchdown pass from Guzik.

Huntington amassed 354 yards of total offense, including 28 rushes for 149 yards. The Blue Devil defense made 68 solo tackles, 11 assists, six tackles for a loss, two quarterback sacks, two pass deflections and one forced fumble. Placekicker Max Carino successfully converted all six extra point attempts.

“It was a great day to be a Blue Devil,” head coach Ronald E. Wilson said. Members of Huntington’s 2005 championship team were honored at halftime. Back on the field, it was a must-win game for the Blue Devils and they delivered.

Ethan Lawless turned in another big game on defense with eight tackles, a pair of quarterback sacks, two assists and a tackle for a loss. Henderson also had eight tackles, including one for a loss. Shates Miller, Zayvion McCoy, Titan Elysee, Banny Soc Concua, Northrop and Jones all made six tackles apiece. Elysee also deflected a pass and forced a fumble. Henry Gerberg was still another standout with five tackles, including one for a loss and a pass deflection.

Several Huntington players are among the best in Suffolk statistically, including:

• Jacob Guzik: He has completed 78-of-98 passes for 1,088 yards and 11 touchdowns, which places him ninth in the county for yardage. He has thrown four interceptions.

• Yasir Jones: He has rushed 132 times for 818 yards and 15 touchdowns, which puts him third in Suffolk. He has also caught 14 passes for 127 yards.

• Jack Kamenstein: He has caught 30 passes for 625 yards and eight touchdowns, which is third best in the county.

Huntington (5-2) plays at Newfield (4-3) on Thursday night at 6 p.m. in the final game of the regular season. Newfield shutout Centereach last weekend, 50-0.
