Huntington Trustees Set Tax Rate for 2025/26

With final assessed valuation figures finally in hand, Huntington School Board members set the 2025/26 tax levy during their during their public meeting on Monday, October 20 at the Adam Spector Auditorium at Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School.

The town assessor’s office notified the district that its final assessed valuation for the 2025/26 tax year totals $44,465,263, a reduction of $179,199 from the current year’s assessed value.

Trustees approved a resolution that sets the tax levy at $120,426,114 per $100 of assessed valuation. The tax rate will be $270.83, an increase of 3.3 percent.

The Huntington School District’s 2025/26 budget amounts to $157,776,153 or 3.61 percent above last year. The district expects to receive $32,259,586 in state aid and $1,057,651 in miscellaneous revenues. The state aid increase amounts to $882,586.

Trustees voted to appropriate $1.65 million from the district’s fund balance to hold down taxes. Dedicated reserve fund allocations are budgeted at $2,191,707. The balance of revenues will be collected in property taxes.

The Huntington School District’s assessed valuation peaked at $49,797,684 or about $5.3 million higher than it is today, a quarter of a century later.

District officials said that Huntington UFSD remains committed to conservative financial planning and stringent oversight of all spending. The district completely eliminated its remaining long-term debt with a final bond payment this past June 30 and is now debt free.
