Huntington High School Library is Hopping

October 9, 2025

The library at Huntington High School is hopping. It’s busier than ever with students filing in an out of the facility nine periods per day, plus frequently both before and after school, noted librarian Allison Bean.

“Compared to this time last year, students have checked out more than twice as many books, and I think that is something to celebrate,” Ms. Bean said. “The Huntington High School library is buzzing.”

Ms. Bean has been the high school’s school media specialist since December 2021. That’s the professional title that State Education Department assigns to the position. She obtained an undergraduate degree at SUNY New Paltz and a Master of Library Sciences degree at CUNY Queens College.

“We’re thrilled to share that our book checkouts have more than doubled compared to this time last school year,” Ms. Bean said. “It’s incredible to see so many students discovering new stories, diving into research, and finding their next favorite read. Haven't visited us yet? Come see what all the excitement is about!”

Ms. Bean was previously employed at Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn as director of library services and at Drexel Avenue Elementary School in Westbury as a school media specialist.

The Huntington High School library is open:

• Before school

• During lunch periods

• After school Monday-Thursday from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

“Whether you're looking for your next great read, a quiet study spot, or just want to explore, we'd love to see you,” Ms. Bean said. “Stop by and join our reading community.”
