Huntington UFSD Celebrates Custodians and Grounds Staff

Huntington UFSD is celebrating its custodial and outdoor grounds staff members for keeping buildings and campuses in great shape.

“On behalf of our entire district, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to our incredible custodial and buildings and grounds staff,” Superintendent Beth McCoy said. “These dedicated professionals are the unsung heroes of our schools, working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that every student and staff member walks into a safe, clean, and welcoming environment each day. Their work is essential to everything we do, and their pride in our buildings reflects their pride in our community. Today, and every day, we thank them for their commitment, care, and the vital role they play in the success of our schools.”

Washington, Jefferson and Flower Hill primary schools were all built in 1954 with extensions constructed in 1958. Jefferson Primary School was built in 1962 with Woodhull Intermediate School erected in 1966. Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School was built in 1967/68. J. Taylor Finley Middle School went up in 1964/65.

Considering the age of the buildings and their intense use during the regular school and by community groups after school, all of the structures are in continual need of TLC. The custodians and building and grounds staff give that to them.

The department is led by its director, Richard W. Rouse, who is assisted by Vincent Gray.
