Huntington Drama Club Announces Fall Play

October 1, 2025

The Huntington High School drama club has announced its fall play will be “Lost Girl” by Kimberly Belflower, author of the current Broadway hit “John Proctor is the Villain.”

“Lost Girl” was the winner of the 2018 Kennedy Center Darrell Ayers National Playwriting Award. “It takes us on Wendy’s journey upon returning from Neverland, when she decides that she must find Peter in order to reclaim her kiss and move on with her life,” explained Michael Schwendemann, the Huntington High School drama club faculty advisor.

“Lost Girl” is a dark, lyrical, and haunting reimagining of the Peter Pan myth, told from the perspective of the women who were left behind. Centered on Wendy Darling, now an adult, the play explores the trauma, memory, and lingering impact of childhood adventures that society often romanticizes but rarely interrogates. Years after returning from Neverland, Wendy struggles to move on. She’s haunted by the memory of Peter Pan, her experiences in Neverland, and the girl she used to be. Her attempts to live a “normal” life are complicated by unresolved emotions, a sense of abandonment and the lack of space given to young women to process loss and change. Wendy seeks therapy, connection, and meaning in a world that dismisses her story.

Through poetic language and intimate storytelling, “Lost Girl” gives voice to Wendy and other “lost girls” as they confront the messy aftermath of childhood fantasy. The play ultimately becomes a meditation on growing up, healing, and reclaiming one’s own narrative. Along the way she meets other girls who went to Neverland and learns she is not alone. A coming-of-age exploration of first love and lasting loss, “Lost Girl” continues the story of J.M. Barrie’s beloved character - the girl who had to grow up.

Auditions are complete for the production and the cast has been finalized. Rehearsals are set to begin in earnest.

The curtain will go up in the Huntington High School auditorium on Friday, November 21 at 7 p.m. and again on Saturday, November 22 at both 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door.
