Flower Hill Primary School’s recent PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) family engagement event was a great success. The session provided families with meaningful strategies for promoting positive behavior at home.

“The workshop highlighted the importance of the home–school connection and how consistent expectations and routines can support every child’s behavioral success,” Flower Hill Principal Cindy Siegel said.

During the workshop, families explored the value of quality family time, positive communication, fostering independence, and establishing healthy routines. Families and staff also worked together to create a “Race to the Fox” activity to use at home, reinforcing consistency between school and home environments.

“It was truly a wonderful evening of learning, collaboration, and community building,” Ms. Siegel said.

“Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health,” according to the Center on PBIS. “When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social emotional competence, academic success, and school climate. It also improves teacher health and wellbeing. It is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives.”

There are about 28,000 schools in the United States that use the PBIS program.
