Jefferson’s Math-STEM Night Shatters Records

November 21, 2025

Jefferson Primary School’s Math/STEM Night shattered all previous attendance records when it drew a crowd of 163 students and family members to the building. This year’s event featured a special multicultural theme.

Many parents were in the crowd that totaled 163.

Families “traveled” across four continents; Asia, Europe, Africa and North America to participate in hands-on STEM activities.

“Students explored geometric shapes to create figures, built patterns, discovered how salt can act like sandpaper, designed and constructed structures, and used technology such as Google Maps and robots to navigate routes around the world,” Jefferson Principal Valerie Capitulo-Saide said. These engaging activities helped students connect real-world STEM concepts in fun and interactive ways.”

Jefferson is always searching for vehicles to engage both students and their families. It relies on staff members to pitch in and help out with organizational details and the leadership of activities.

Based on the attendance at Jefferson’s Math/STEM Night, more such academic evenings will be planned this year. Jefferson’s students are once again inquisitive, smart, articulate and energetic, excited to learn new facts, figures and concepts.

“A huge thank you to our MTSS (multi-tiered system of supports) math teachers, Elaine Leon and Kristen Maguire, and to all the amazing Jefferson teachers and staff who made this exciting event possible,” Ms. Capitulo-Saide said.
