Juliette Creegan Leads Finley-Blue Girls’ Soccer

The J. Taylor Finley Middle School “blue” soccer team rallied to put together a competitive season after early worries about a lack of players to support two teams at the school.
Coached by physical education player Sabrina Emmerich, who played soccer at nearby John H. Glenn High School and at SUNY Cortland, Finley-Blue was captained by Hayden Amar and Sydney Amar.
“From the beginning of the season, the odds were against us,” Emmerich said. We had such a lack of numbers we weren’t sure if we were even going to have enough players to play in our games. Thankfully, it all worked out. This was a team effort and the girls showed great leadership skills and were always very committed to the process.”
Finley was led by Hayden Amar and Phoebe Poli on defense, Sydney Amar at midfield and Juliette Creegan, who led the team in goals from her midfield and forward positions.
“Juliette showed incredible growth and grit,” Emmerich said. “No matter the situation, she was ready to step up and give her best. Hayden’s energy was unmatched. She played with intensity and passion that set the tone for the entire team. Sydney showed incredible commitment and resilience throughout the season. Even when facing injury and sickness she never backed down. Phoebe brought joy and energy to every practice. Her love for the game showed in her effort, her laughter and the way she lifted everyone’s spirits. Always smiling and cracking jokes, she reminded us that soccer is about passion, teamwork and having fun.”
Emmerich was pleased with the squad. “They started with struggles but finished with pride,” she said. “This team showed that effort, resilience and teamwork can overcome any struggles that may come their way. I have spoken with the seventh graders and they all stated they will be returning to play next year.”
