Chamber Choir Wins First Place at Music in the Parks

May 22, 2025

Huntington High School Chamber Choir members recently travelled to New Jersey to perform in a Music in the Parks event. The vocalists garnered first place in their division after adjudication by a panel of distinguished judges.

The Huntington vocalists were on their game and impressed the New Jersey crowd. Following a job well done, the group went to Six Flags Great Adventure for the award ceremony.

“This was a wonderful experience for our students and I am incredibly proud of how hard they have worked to receive this award and recognition,” said Charles Colasanti, a Huntington High School music teacher who serves as the choral director.

The Huntington vocalists included Liva Camarata, Kevin Dominguez, Lauren Dopico, Michaela Dopico, Rachel Huth, Walter Lopez Martinez, Sergio Portillo, Alexa Schirripa, DeAndre Simmons, James Stensland, Josephine Sullivan and Alexander Tine.

The Huntington High School choir program has grown in stature over the years and its members have been presented with awards many times over. The choir has performed at many events and its members have been asked to sing at dozens of athletic contests this year.

The vocalists who comprise the choir have also assumed leading roles during annual spring musical productions of the drama club. These vocalists have also helped to elevate the quality of the stage performances.

Earlier this year, chamber choir members performed at a public meeting of the Huntington School Board.
