May 2, 2025
Michaela Dopico is a very well-liked senior in Huntington High School’s Class of 2025. She has been a standout stage performer with the drama club and a mainstay in the choir program. The teenager has decided to pursue her future goals at the University of Delaware in the fall.

“The first time I visited the University of Delaware, I fell in love with it,” Ms. Dopico said. “It’s beautiful campus, welcoming atmosphere and life in general immediately made me feel home. After I did some additional research and observed how ideal the university would be for my major, well-established programs, state-of-the-art facilities and practical experience, my choice became obvious. I also appreciate that it is not too far from my family so I get the freedom I need while still being near enough to home. In general, the University of Delaware appeared to be the ideal institution where I could grow both intellectually and personally.”
Ms. Dopico gets along well with everyone. She works hard and has compiled an exceptional academic record. She is a happy young woman who wears a smile on her face as she makes her way around the high school.
“I’m majoring in music education, with the ultimate goal of being an elementary music teacher,” Ms. Dopico said. “I’ve been interested in music and working with kids my whole life, and teaching is a means by which I can combine those two passions in a constructive manner. I hope to introduce a sense of music appreciation in younger students and allow them to achieve confidence, creativity, and collaboration through music.”
Like most of her classmates, Ms. Dopico discerned her interests well other the past four years, discovering her niche and developing and refining her talents.
“During my time at Huntington High School, I’ve been deeply involved in the music and performing arts community,” Ms. Dopico said. “I’ve been an active member of the drama club, participating in multiple school productions both on stage and behind the scenes, which has helped me grow as a performer and team member. I’m also part of the chamber choir, where I’ve had the chance to work on advanced vocal pieces with a dedicated group of singers. In addition, I’ve been involved in our school’s honors music ensembles; the wind ensemble and a cappella choir, both of which have challenged me musically and allowed me to perform at a high level. These experiences have shaped my passion for music and reaffirmed my desire to be a music teacher.”
Ms. Dopico is well regarded by the high school faculty. She is articulate and a strong advocate for what she holds dear.
“I have been extremely blessed to have two fantastic mentors that have guided me and supported me every step of the way during my musical life,” Ms. Dopico said. “My voice teacher, Mrs. Diane Starost, has been teaching me for a little over a decade now. She has been an instrumental part of crafting my voice, boosting my confidence level, and helping me grow not only as a singer but as an artist too. Her devotion and trust in me have meant everything.
“Dr. Giachetti has been an excellent mentor. From band to AP Music Theory, to even going out of his way to create an independent study just for me, he always ensured that I was provided with the very best musical education available. His passion for teaching and empathy for his students have inspired me and solidified my own dreams of becoming a music teacher. I would not be where I am today without them and their guidance absolutely.”
The senior is striving to finish her senior year in the strongest possible way. Ms. Dopico takes pride in everything she does, including excelling in her classes and on her exams.
“My experience at Huntington High School has been incredibly positive,” Ms. Dopico said. “I’ve truly loved being a part of this school community. It’s full of some of the most amazing teachers I’ve ever met. Everyone goes the extra mile to ensure that others’ needs are met. I am really lucky to have spent the past few years in such a supportive and nurturing environment.”
