HHS Garners 15 Hunting-Tony Award Nominations

The Huntington High School drama club and its actors and stagehands have garnered a whopping 15 Hunting-Tony Award nominations for the fall and spring productions of “Kodachrome” and Mean Girls.”
Hunting-Tony Awards judges watched every high school drama club production in the town over the past year, forming the basis for the nominations and ultimate honors in each category.
This year’s award recipients will be announced during a ceremony at Harborfields High School on Thursday, May 15. The nominees will walk the red carpet outside the building at 6 p.m. The ceremony kicks off at 7 p.m.
Huntington High School actors have captured their fair share of awards in previous years. Drama club faulty advisor Michael Schwendemann is excited that his program has received so many nominations.
Huntington’s nominees in the drama category include:
• Best Play: “Kodachrome”
• Best Supporting Actor in a Play: Sergio Portillo – “Kodachrome”
• Best Scenery in a Play: “Kodachrome”
• Best Technical Production for a Play (Lighting): “Kodachrome”
• Best Technical Production for a Play (Sound): “Kodachrome”
Huntington’s nominees in the musical category include:
• Best Lead Actress in a Musical: Josie Sullivan
• Best Orchestra Pit: “Mean Girls”
• Best Scenery in a Musical: “Mean Girls”
• Best Stage Crew for a Musical: “Mean Girls”
• Best Ensemble in a Musical: “Mean Girls”
• Best Featured Actor in a Musical: James Stensland – “Mean Girls”
• Best Supporting Actress in a Musical: Lily Wasoski – “Mean Girls”
• Best Supporting Actor in a Musical: Walter Lopez – “Mean Girls”
• Best Technical Production for a Musical (Lighting): “Mean Girls”
• Best Technical Production for a Musical (Sound): “Mean Girls”
A select group of students will perform for the crowd, expected to number in the hundreds. Many of the nominees are expected to come decked out in tuxedos and evening gowns. This is their night to shine.
