Announcement of Homecoming Day Date Coming Soon

March 21, 2025

An announcement concerning the date of Huntington UFSD’s Homecoming Day festivities is coming soon. Officials have been waiting for Section XI to issue varsity football schedules listing 2025’s four home games. Those schedules will be released next week.

Once the eight week schedule is known, district officials will discuss which week works best for the Homecoming festivities. Many considerations go into making the decision, including avoiding conflicts with other scheduled school and community events. This is especially important because the parade temporarily shuts down parts of Gerard Street, West Neck Road, Main Street and New York Avenue.

Traditional events include a late Saturday morning parade down Main Street through the heart of Huntington village and up New York Avenue to the Big H/Huntington Commons Shopping Center and along Holdsworth Drive into the school parking lot.

The entire school community is invited to participate in the parade, which is led by the Blue Devil marching band. Hundreds of students, parents and teachers from every grade level participated in last year’s march through the village. Free bus service will be available between the high school parking lot and the town lot on Gerard Street.

The Blue Devil football team will take the field at 1:30 p.m. for the weekend’s centerpiece athletic event. Halftime festivities will include the crowning of a king and queen along with musical and artistic performances by the Huntington Blue Devil marching band and the Highsteppers dance team and an announcement of the winning class float.

A district wide homecoming bonfire celebration is likely to be held at Huntington High School on the Thursday night of Homecoming Week. There will be food, games, performances and a spectacular bonfire in the parking field.

Friday will feature the construction of four class floats along with an afternoon pep rally at Blue Devil Stadium. The crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen will occur at either the pep rally or at halftime of the Saturday football game.

As always there might be some surprises for next fall’s homecoming week. Student government advisors David Moriarty and Danielle Raguzin will be working with class advisors and student leaders on various aspects of homecoming week.
