Wynne Franciscovich Pins Her Way to All-County Honors

March 19, 2025

Wynne Franciscovich battled her way to 17 varsity wins and fourth place in Suffolk as the Huntington High School junior enjoyed a banner year with the Blue Devil girls’ wrestling contingent on the “super team” consisting of athletes from John H. Glenn, Walt Whitman, Harborfields, Commack, Northport and Huntington.

Huntington junior Wynne Franciscovich is an All-County wrestler.

Franciscovich was splendid in the county tournament, winning the Most Pins in the Least Amount of Time Award with four falls in 4:39. She’s also one of the top students academically in Huntington’s junior class. The teenager boasts a grade average exceeding 107. She served as a Blue Devil captain along with teammate Aylin Davila Chitay.

Physical education teacher Maria Canino coached the Huntington wrestlers. The combined team won the Uniondale tournament, was league co-champion, took fourth in the county tournament and captured third place in the state tournament.

Franciscovich went 17-12 on the season and really improved over the year earlier season. She helped lead the “super team” to a 6-2 dual meet record. The term “super team” is a label given by Section XI as a result of six separate high schools combining forces to form a single squad.

Franciscovich also plays goalkeeper on the Blue Devil varsity girls’ soccer team. She excels academically in every discipline and she’s very popular with her classmates and teachers. On a wrestling mat she is tough as nails.

Huntington’s contingent on the Town of Huntington (as it is officially known) team was coached by Washington School physical education Maria Canino. The team dropped dual meets to Rocky Point (35-29) and Bellport (39-27) before winning its next six straight matches, including victories over Bay Shore (34-28), Copiague (52-6), Rocky Point (39-24), Bellport (29-27), Bay Shore (45-19) and Copiague (49-13).
