Huntington’s Female Administrators Help Empower the Future

March 18, 2025

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Huntington High School’s Women’s Empowerment Club invited women leaders found at various levels of district and building administration to share their stories with students.

The event, titled “Cookies and Convo” featured a roundtable discussion where administrators shared their journeys with the club members. These conversations sparked thought-provoking questions and powerful stories, fostering a sense of community and solidarity between administrators and students.

The following administrators were invited to the club’s roundtable event:

• Beth McCoy: Superintendent of Schools

• Dr. Rubie Harris: Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Management Services

• Rochelle Brown: Principal of Huntington High School

• Patricia Avelli: Assistant Principal of Huntington High School

• Diana Rich: Director of Special Education & Student Support Services

• Judy Moroff: Director of World Languages, English as a New Language & Bilingual Programs

• Kevene Lowrie: Chairperson of Science K-12

• Dr. Teresa Grossane: Director of Mathematics and Computer Sciences

• Kimberly Musial: Director of Fine and Performing Arts

• Janine Delgado: Chairperson of Special Education

The event was organized by the members of Huntington’s Women’s Empowerment Club, which is advised by faculty member Sara Guagliano. Since the start of the year, the club has worked tirelessly to plan initiatives that raise awareness about the often overlooked and underappreciated roles women have played in shaping history and society. By showcasing the powerful female role models within the Huntington community, the event inspired students to pursue their goals and dreams.

The club’s officers include Bella Bernzweig (president), Gabby Genao (vice president), Alejandro Orjuela (treasurer), Emma Gutierrez (secretary) and Lindsay Depeine (social media coordinator).

Women’s Empowerment Month is celebrated annually in March at Huntington High School with events such as Jeopardy and student-led presentations, honoring the accomplishments of women throughout history.

“As a recognized club, it is crucial that we continue striving to create a more inclusive and diverse narrative that highlights the accomplishments of women,” Ms. Guagliano said. “Doing so helps build a fuller, more accurate picture of history, one that reflects the contributions of women from all walks of life.”
