The Dispatch Continues to Inform at Huntington High School

While local and daily newspapers continue to fold all over the country, the latest edition of Huntington High School’s student newspaper, The Dispatch is essential reading around the building. Billed as “The Beacon of Truth Since 1974,” it’s a worthy successor to its predecessors of other names.
Isabella Careccia-Johnson is the paper’s editor in chief with Katie Sorto Cabrera serving as senior layout editor and Emma Marsala and Owen Stevens as junior editors. Julia Goodwin is the junior layout editor. Louisa Skrobela is The Dispatch club secretary and Isabella Palacios is the treasurer. Sofia Van Arsdale in public relations coordinator. Teachers Aimee Antorino and Kristina Morell serve as the newspaper club’s faculty advisors.
Contributing staff members include Alison Hahn, Charles Stanforth, Emiliano Colman Britez, Eva Richter, Felicity George, Jack Chiclacos, Kylie Barch, Marilyn Mendoza Virula, Martin Rodriguez, Maryan Iftikhar, Nataly Posada and Olivia Lee.
The front page features a story on New Year’s Eve Traditions by Julia Goodwin and an article on the Top 5 Moments of 2024 by Kylie Barch. Inside the cover is an editorial. The paper’s 16 pagers are jammed with interesting and fun stories. Eva Richter penned How to Study for Exams and Ryan Ramirez wrote a story about on The Disappointing Jets Season.
Emiliano Colman Britez’s story on The Influence of Social Media on Sports is timely. Emma Marsala’s article titled Students Need Lunch is especially persuasive. Isabella Palacios and Sofia Van Arsdale co-authored the popular student advice column titled SIZZY Q&A: Mid-Year Woes.
Katie Sorto Cabrera authored Get to Know Huntington’s Newest Business Teacher: Ms. Mannino and a second story titled The Analytical Mind of Mr. Outsen. Maryam Iftikhar wrote How Mrs. Tello Engages Students Beyond the Classroom.
Alison Hahn’s Winter Book Recommendations is especially interesting. Jake Chiclacos and Marilyn Mendoza Virula collaborated on Chromakopia Album Review. Owen Stevens wrote a story titled Inside the Minds of Fencers: A Look Into the Huntington Fencing Team. The centerfold is filled with color photos of winter events.
Louisa Skrobela penned an article titled Wicked: The Movie Adaption That Defied Expectations. Mia Einemann wrote, Mia’s Review Corner: Two of the Best in Classical Literature. Felicity George reviewed singer-songwriter Lizzy Alpine’s latest album, Give Me a Minute.
Martin Rodriguez profiled teacher Elizabeth Casazza in a story titled A Passion for Teaching: Sra. Casazza. Maryam Iftikhar wrote a story on How Mrs. Tello Engages Students Beyond the Classroom. Charles Stanforth covered What’s New in the Premier League? Owen Stevens created a crossword puzzle and word search and Sudoku and Kakuro games.
Now in its 60th year, The Dispatch is just as essential as it has ever been.
