Woodhull Intermediate School fifth graders are proving they are a match for their peers near and far after showcasing the endless possibilities in STEM related fields.

“This project-based learning task was designed by teacher Soraya Triessl to spark curiosity, build essential skills and inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators,” said Keven Lowrie, chairperson of science K-12 in Huntington UFSD.

With completion of this project, students were able to:

Career Awareness & Exploration: Students learn about a wide range of science careers, expanding their understanding of future opportunities in STEM.

Research & Communication Skills: Through their presentations, students develop critical thinking, research, and public speaking abilities that will benefit them in all subjects.

Diversity & Representation: Highlighting diverse professionals in science helps students see that anyone can make an impact in STEM, no matter their background.

Real-World Connections: By exploring how science is applied in different careers, students gain a deeper appreciation for what they learn in the classroom.

The articulate and knowledgeable fifth graders were delighted to share their knowledge before a classroom filled with their peers.
