Southdown Recognizes February’s Top Students

March 3, 2025

Southdown Primary School has a long history of service to the community. It’s in its eighth decade as one of the crown jewels of Huntington UFSD and its students in 2024/25 are just as intelligent, ambitious, ingenious and energetic as the many thousands that came before them.

Southdown faculty members organize a monthly Splash assembly program. The “Splash” assembly draws its name from Southdown’s mascot; the dolphin. Students are awarded “splashes” for displaying positive behavior in the classroom and around the building, including being kind to others, demonstrating proper behavior in hallways and even lifting the spirits of someone feeling a little bit down.

One Southdown student is selected monthly from every class in the building for formal recognition at the “splash” assembly. The school considers these youngsters to be its stars of the month. Principal Jill Amott-Erwig congratulated each of the youngsters.

February’s star students included:

Universal Pre-Kindergarten: Abigail Conroy, Andrew Engle

Kindergarten: Nina Fulton, Carlos Garciaguirre Saravia, Maya Motley

First Grade: Joel Martinez, Melanie Taliento, Viana Cuiffo, Mayrose Benitez Obando

Second Grade: Dylan Coreas Ticas, Charles “Charlie” Carino, Jack Login, Emelyn Jennings

Third Grade: Hunter Kennedy, Tristan Garreau, Grace McManus, Alexa Jimenez Henriquez

Students are already working to accumulate enough “splashes” between now and the next assembly so they join the list of honorees.
