Rehearsals Underway for Spring Musical at Huntington High School

March 3, 2025

Rehearsals are underway for the Huntington High School drama club’s March 28-29 production of “Mean Girls,” billed as a “hilarious rock musical.” Adapted from a 2004 film, the musical had a two year run spanning 833 performances at the August Wilson Theatre before being halted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Rehearsals are being held daily after school in the auditorium under the watchful eyes of drama club faculty advisor Michael Schwendemann. The full cast of the upcoming production has been selected and the names of all cast members will be released shortly.

“I’m really enjoying the rehearsals,” senior Toni Reyes-Sorto said. “It’s one of the best activities I’ve participated in this year and it keeps me going through my long weeks of work and school. Even during extremely hard times, the play rehearsals are always keeping me motivated to sing and dance and keep a smile on my face. It’s like I found another family in the high school that I’ll forever miss once I graduate. I’m excited to bring the iconic ‘Mean Girls’ to Huntington High School.”

The curtain will go up on Friday, March 28 at 7 p.m. and again on Saturday, March 29 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The high school auditorium is fully handicapped accessible.

“Rehearsals are going great,” senior Josie Sullivan said. “It’s nice to see the hard work everyone is putting in this early on in the process.”

Photographer Darin Reed has taken promotional headshots for the show bill, showcases and posters.

The rehearsal process can sometimes be grueling, but right now it’s just the opposite. “It’s going well,” senior Emily Kustera said. “It’s super fun and it’s coming together really nicely.”
