Harry Uvena Turns in Historic Baseball Season
June 18, 2025
Senior Harry Uvena paced the Blue Devil varsity baseball team this spring. The teenager was named to the All-County team and was a finalist for both the Silver Slugger and Gold Glove Awards.

Uvena was coached by John Romano and Nicholas Matarazzo. He turned in one of the greatest seasons in the history of the Huntington baseball program, which is more than 100 years old.
Uvena ably patrolled leftfield and batted .577 in league play and .556 overall, going 30-for-56. He smacked 10 doubles and a homerun, drove in 14 runs and scored 18 times. The senior drew 10 walks and stole three bases. His slugging percentage was .796 and he struck out only five times in 65 plate appearances.
“Harrison Uvena is most likely one of the greatest hitters to ever come out of Huntington,” Romano said. “His ability to spray the ball around the field and hit for power is something that coaches fear facing him. He was unanimously voted All-County by our league coaches as well as the nominee for Silver Slugger Award by League 3. He’s a finalist for the Suffolk County Silver Slugger Award. Harry is a leader on and off the field, who lets his game do the talking. He's never taken off an at bat in the past two seasons and is always up for a challenge regardless of the pitcher he's facing. He faced a lot of good pitchers this season and excelled. Other coaches in the league all said he was clearly the best hitter in the league.”
Uvena is headed to SUNY Oswego where he has been recruited to play on the college’s baseball team. “He puts in work at practice and then goes and puts in more work with trainers,” Romano said. “He has an unbelievable work ethic that shows at the plate and in the field. He's the kid who eats, sleeps and breathes baseball and his statistics and accolades back that up. He showed great range in the outfield along with a stellar arm.”
