Huntington JV Girls’ Lax Compiles 13-3 Record

July 23, 2025

Just like its varsity counterpart, the Huntington High School JV girls’ lacrosse team turned in a spectacular season, compiling a 13-3 record and showcasing many talented players.

Coached by Chiara Maimone and Sophia Little, the Blue Devil JV was captained by Justina Hlenski and Erin Langton.

“Our overall record is one of our greatest accomplishments this season,” Maimone said. “Given that we have a smaller team with only about two subs per game, having such a successful season demonstrates that the players were able to overcome this obstacle on a consistent basis and thrive. They faced various opponents with different levels of skills and each time have risen to the occasion and played with heart and unity.”

Huntington won 13-out-of-16 games, with the losses coming to Farmingdale (11-10), Cold Spring Harbor (16-5) and Ward Melville (11-5).

The Blue Devils were led by eighth twin sisters, Brianna and Kaitlyn Purcell, who both starred at midfield and eighth grade attack Norah Golden.

“Brianna is an incredible hardworking athlete,” Maimone said. “As a midfielder, she plays an integral part in our teams’ success and is constantly looking to gain possession and score goals. If Brianna makes a mistake, she has the desire to immediately make the adjustments and try again until she reaches her desired outcome. She also has a very strong of the game for her age. She is always willing to contribute to team huddles and discussions and brings up her own game experiences to the conversation, which helps add to the team’s performance.”

Kaitlyn Purcell also shined. “She is extremely hardworking,” Maimone said. She consistently looks for ways to improve her performance and is motivated to do well for herself as an individual, but also for her team as well. Kaitlyn has a strong sense of the game as an eighth graders and has tremendous potential for the future. She has been such an asset to the team this season and we know that she has a very bright future in lacrosse ahead of her.”

Norah Golden is still another eighth grader who proved she belonged on the high school level. “Norah has made so many positive contributions to the team this year,” Maimone said. Her skills on the field have supported us in having such a successful season. Norah has elevated her game IQ and always looks to find ways to get the ball in the back of the net. She has a positive attitude. Her future in lacrosse is really bright. We are excited to see where it takes her.”

The team featured talented players at every position. “It has been a privilege to coach this team,” Maimone said. “We have had many lighthearted moments of laughter at practices, in huddles at game, etc., but have also been met with some challenges throughout the season and the girls have met those face on while keeping their composure and working together as a team. Out overall record this season demonstrates the efforts and commitment that these young ladies have made from March through May, rain or shine.”
