Sophia Weiss to Play Field Hockey at Utica University
July 14, 2025
Sophia Weiss has put hundreds of hours into training as a field hockey goalkeeper and following a splendid high school career, she is headed to the college ranks at Utica University. The teenager graduated with Huntington High School’s Class of 2025. She played on the Blue Devil varsity field hockey team.

A National Honor Society who was recognized as a Distinguished Senior, Ms. Weiss also volunteered with the high school’s Habitat for Humanity chapter. She also played on Huntington’s varsity girls’ badminton team, where she was a coaches favorite for her determined style of play.
“My key to success has been to always ask for help,” Ms. Weiss said. “I’ve learned that rather than trying to do everything on my own, seeking support and learning from mistakes has helped me grow not only as a student but also as a friend.”
At the 57th annual Blue Devil Senior Athletics Awards ceremony, Ms. Weiss was presented the Most Valuable Goalie Award for field hockey and a Coaches Award for badminton.
“Throughout high school, I’ve most enjoyed participating in field hockey and badminton,” Ms. Weiss said. “These experiences have allowed me to build amazing friendships while also developing valuable skills in leadership, communication and teamwork.”
Ms. Weiss was recruited by several colleges to play on their field hockey team prior to deciding Utica University was the right fit for her. She plans on studying biology.
