The Huntington Association of Retired Teachers and Employees awarded $1,000 scholarships to Class of 2025 members Ashley Alay, Ada Cruz-Gutierrez and Molly O’Brien and presented a $500 award to Ethan Mortensen.
The formal presentation was made by HARTE President Martha Ironman at the high school’s senior scholarships and awards ceremony in the auditorium.
The four HARTE scholarship award recipients are held in high esteem by their teachers and classmates. Each of them has contributed in their own unique way to the high school over the past four years.
Ms. Alay is headed to Hofstra University to study nursing. An Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, Ms. Cruz-Gutierrez plans to attend Nassau Community College. Ms. O’Brien intends to pursue a degree in business at James Madison University. Mr. Mortensen will be attending the University at Buffalo.
Mrs. Ironman spoke about each of the HARTE scholarship award recipients and their personal qualities. She also briefly discussed the organization and its continuing commitment to Huntington USFD and its students.
The HARTE scholarship is funded by dues from the organization’s members, which number in the hundreds.
