World Language Honor Societies Induct New Members

Huntington High School’s world language honor societies are upstanding organizations committed to recognizing student excellence and pursuing community service.

Maria Jose Castro and Adriana Zepeda are among the new Italian Honor Society members.

The French, Italian, Latin and Spanish honor societies held their annual induction ceremonies Thursday night, welcoming dozens of new members who are mastering a second or even a third language.

The evening attracted a crowd of parents and school officials, including Huntington School Board President Xavier Palacios and Vice President Michele Kustera, Superintendent Beth McCoy, Principal Rochelle Brown and Assistant Principals Trish Avelli and Gamal Smith.

Society faculty advisors Gina Trigian Molvaut (French), Natalia Kopshti (Italian), Kristin Fortunato (Latin) and Nadine Araoz (Spanish) looked on with pride as the teenagers recited their respective society’s pledge before the faculty members and the officers of each organization presented certificates to the newly inducted scholars.

The French Honor Society welcomed Katherine Bautista, Alexandra Boeckman, Reed Cummiskey, Claire Dello-Iacono, Charles Desrochers, Angeliki Drakos, Ronan Driscoll, Madelyn Falk, Allison Hahn, Matthew Jimenez, Mia Kaufman, Eli Levi, Luke Lomler, Marilyn Mendosa-Virula, Eva Richter and Owen Stevens into its ranks.

The Italian Honor Society brought Gemma Bedell, Amelia Carino, Maria Jose Castro Sanchez, Addison Delfino, Michael DiVincenzo, Leighton Evans, Amanda Ganley, Mia Johnson, Gabriella LoScalzo, Grace Oliva, Genesis Orantes Aguirre, Jessica Ramirez, Dana Saramago and Adriana Zepeda Palacios into its fold.

The Latin Honor Society opened its arms to Jasmine Awuah, Justin Hernandez, Mark Ingram, Gabriel Salinas and Cole Lima.

The new Spanish Honor Society members include Jordan Aguilar Rivera, Maya Akerman, Valerie Alfaro, Azucena Alvarado Gomez, Gabriela Avalos, Giselle Avelar Romero, Ruby Baliber, Steven Benitez Aravalo, Hanna Boyle, Julian Canalies, Edgar Castro Anariba, William Chavez Cisneros, Ana Colman, Christian Correal, David Cruz Ponce, Colby Curran, Deisy Dominguez Torres, Valerie Ferreira, Christian Guandique, Eric Heinz, Amani Huq, Iliana Jarmolowski, Juliet Johnson, Leah McManus, Sheilin Marroquin Contreras, Emma Marsala, Samantha Martinez, Nicolas Martinez Eubig, Ava McDonald, Angel Menjivar Quintanilla, Ashley Moreno Garcia, Isabella Palacios, Violet Palacios, Ashlin Perez, Yobin Perez Garcia, Emily Redondo Guillen, Juan Rodriguez Sandoval, Melanie Rodriguez, Jayden Schneider, Jaipreet Singh, Tulsi Singh, Louisa Skrobela, Kayli Velasquez and Lia Zivkovic.

The evening included an enchanting performance of Edith Piaf’s “La vie en Rose” by Mia Molina-Baptista. Pianist Claire Parks performed Claude Debussy’s “Clair de Lune” to the delight of the big crowd. Spanish Honor Society President Charlotte Curtin served as master of ceremonies. Italian Honor Society Treasurer Samuel Soric offered short welcoming remarks.

Following the ceremony participants and their parents enjoyed refreshments in the auditorium lobby as they socialized and posed for photos during a reception that capped off a night recognizing exceptional academic achievement.
