Math Honor Society Ranks Swell with 57 New Members

Huntington High School’s chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, the national Math Honor Society inducted 57 new members during a ceremony last week before a crowd of parents and school officials.
The ceremony marked the 28th annual induction since the founding of Huntington’s Nathan Hale chapter of Mu Alpha Theta.
To be eligible for membership in the society students must be enrolled in a math class higher than Algebra 2 (such as pre-Calculus, Calculus, AP Calculus, Introduction to Statistics, AP Statistics) and have a minimum unweighted grade average of 85 in Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2.
The organization is led by an executive board consisting of Emily Kustera (president), Dylan Heller (vice president), Anthony Retamal (secretary), Samuel Soric (treasurer) and Lauren Donaghy (tutoring coordinator). Teachers Monica Racz and Jordan Swierkowski are the faculty advisors.
The new inductees include Ella Ackerman, Giana Anfolisi, Dana Avila Justo, Ruby Baliber, Alexandra Balm, Kiley Barch, Jordana Boxer, Emma Boyle, Charlotte Cassatto, Eoin Charles, Sage Cicciari, Kathleen Cocoman, Ryan DiVico, Michaela Dopico, Grayson Dunn, Valerie Ferreira, Nicolas Francis, Wynne Franciscovich, Oliver Gerberg, Eric Heinz, Angelina Hernandez, Mildred Hernandez Veliz, Emely Herrera Rivas, Ruby Hoffman, Amani Huq, Matthew Jimenez, Jack Kamenstein, Olivia Kaufman and Mia Kaufman.
The Math Honor Society’s newest members also include Spencer Krull, Christian Luca, Naomi Lyons, Jesley Martinez Canales, Kiera McGuire, Iverson Menjivar Quintanilla, Cecilena Monge Moreira, Presley Moss, Thomas Nicotra, Andrew Ochoa Islas, Grace Oliva, Luis Orrego Salinas, Claire Parks, Isabella Palacios, Evan Persampire, Emma Polinsky, Vincent Pupillo, Ryan Ramirez, Dana Saramago, Daniel Simon, Benjamin Singh, Jaipreet Singh, Louisa Skrobela, Cameron Smith, Heileen Torres, Sofia Vias, Jolie Weinschreider and Dylan Wong.
Mrs. Racz was the night’s guest speaker. She will be retiring at the end of the school year from her faculty position. She gave a heartfelt address about her career journey and how a person has to always be ready for new doors to open along the way.
Ms. Kustera, the organization’s president also addressed the crowd as did Principal Rochelle Brown and Department Director Teresa Grossane. Ms. Kustera and Mr. Soric opened the festivities with a duet performance of the national anthem.
The crowd included Superintendent Beth McCoy, Deputy Superintendent Christopher Hender, Assistant Superintendent Brenden Cusack and Assistant Principals Trish Avelli and Gamal Smith along with Huntington School Board President Xavier Palacios and Vice President Michele Kustera.
The evening wrapped up with a small reception in the main lobby outside the auditorium.
