Huntington Hosts Symphonic Pops Orchestra on Sunday
February 27, 2025
The cavernous Huntington High School auditorium will host the Long Island Symphonic Pops for an inter-generational concert on Sunday (March 2) at 2 p.m. No tickets are required. Kids will be admitted for free. There is a suggested donation of $10 for adults, but it is not required.
The theme of the concert is “Witches, Pirates & Dragons.” The event will provide Huntington High School symphony orchestra members with “the unique opportunity to combine with the Symphonic Pops of Long Island for a special concert together,” high school orchestra director James DiMeglio said. “The SPLI is an organization that was originally formed as an orchestra for senior citizen musicians, but over the years has transformed into a multigenerational group. This concert provides an opportunity for high school-age musicians to work side by side with older and more experienced musicians, from whom they can learn a lot about not only music, but life as well.”
The Huntington High School musicians have been working to master the music required to perform on Sunday. “The music for this concert was selected by the students and dives into the mythical, the magical and the majestic,” Mr. DiMeglio said. “Everyone involved in this performance is very excited to bring a stellar concert experience for our audience!”
“The Huntington High School Music Department is very excited to once again welcome our friends and colleagues form the Symphonic Pops of Long Island,” said Kimberly Musial, district director of fine and performing arts. “Having such a wide age-range of performers on stage showcases that music is never something that is truly mastered. It requires continual practice, self-reflection and hard work. While it may become an occupation for some of our students, we hope that it will remain a hobby most others. This concert truly showcases the epitome of what it means to be a lifelong learner.”
