Blue Devils Win & Await County Seeding

The Huntington varsity girls’ basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a 51-37 victory at Smithtown East. The Blue Devils improved to 15-5 this winter. The county seeding meeting is scheduled for today (Tuesday) at Section XI at 11 a.m.
Against Smithtown East, the Blue Devils took an 11-8 first quarter lead before going on a 16-9 second quarter run to go ahead at halftime, 27-17. The two teams stayed close in the second with Huntington outscoring their hosts by a 24-20 margin to close out the victory.
The Blue Devils have played well in new head coach Perry Marinelli’s first year with the Huntington varsity. The team has won eighth of its last 10 games.
Against Smithtown East, Sabrina Boyle led the Blue Devils with 20 points. Lauren Donaghy added 16 points and Ava McDonald had seven points while directing the Huntington offense. Jolie Weinschreider had four points and Jenna Italian and Madyn Kalb scored two points each.
Huntington dropped seven 3-point baskets in the game including three by Boyle, two Donaghy and one each by McDonald and Weinschreider.
Huntington has claimed two wins over Northport, one over state ranked Half Hollow Hills East and one over last year’s county runner-up, Commack.
Based on enrollment, the Blue Devils will compete in the Section XI Class AAA tournament with other big schools.
