Fencers to Compete in County Championships on Saturday

The top Huntington varsity boys’ and girls’ fencers are set to compete in the Suffolk individual championships at Half Hollow Hills East on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Huntington hosts combined teams with Harborfields. The two schools have formed a close working relationship and also compete on combined girls’ wrestling, girls’ gymnastics, girls’ swimming and diving and boys’ swimming and diving teams.

The Huntington-Harborfields fencing teams are coached by Blue Devil coaches Michelle O’Brien and Vincent O’Garra. They practice and hold home matches in the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School gym.

The following Huntington High School team members have officially qualified for the individual county championships:

• Dylan Wong: All County Honorable Mention

• Nick Martinez-Eubig: All County Honorable Mention

• Owen Stevens: 2nd Team All County

• Julia Goodwin: 1st Team All County

• Chelsea Drummings: 2nd Team All County

• Olivia Lee: All County Honorable Mention

• Veda Gross: All County Honorable Mention

• Ariana Zavala Nunez: All County Honorable Mention

The following Huntington team members garnered All League honors:

Alternates for the county championship meet include Marilyn Mendoza Virula, Cecilia Lee, Thomas Galicia and Jeremyah Leiva are all alternates for the county championships on Saturday.
