Blue Devils Honor Eight Players on Senior Night

Collectively they have decades of experience in the Huntington boys’ basketball program so it was only fitting that the Blue Devils recognized their veterans in a special way at Senior Night in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium.

The gym was decorated, the Star Spangled Banner was performed live with a sweet duet of Emily Kustera and Samuel Soric singing a capella and DJ Glen Deveau kept the crowd pumped up. Two teams of talented elementary school age players squared off against each other at halftime. A post-game party in the cafeteria added to the festivities, which were well planned by a group of parents.

Huntington head coach Peter Lipka called each of the eight seniors onto the court and invited their parents and families to join them as he spoke about what the teenagers have meant to the program and about their future plans.

The seniors include Aaron Idise, Tyler Hotine, George Mueger, Tom Kline, Nicholas Plachta, Jordan Thorbourne, James Vohs and Justin D’Eloia.

All of the seniors are on either the honor roll or the high honor roll. Mr. Idise plans to attend either St. John’s or Rutgers and study finance. Mr. Hotine is still undecided on a college, but he, too, intends to study finance. Mr. Mueger is also undecided on a college while he plans to study business with a minor in cybersecurity. Mr. Kline will be playing lacrosse at Loyola Maryland and study business.

Mr. Plachta will attend Georgetown University and study public policy. Mr. Thorbourne isn’t sure where he will attend college, but he plans to play football and study criminology. Mr. Vohs is undecided on a college, but he intends to study business. Mr. D’Eloia will be attending SUNY Maritime and will study marine operations.

Huntington dropped a 64-48 verdict to league foe Newfield in the centerpiece game. Vohs scored 17 points and D’Eloia added 11 to lead the Blue Devils.
