Blue Devil Softball Program Ready to Rebound

December 4, 2025

The Huntington High School softball program is looking to rebound and hopefully challenge for a post-season playoff berth next spring under new head coach Jake Torres, who will be assisted by Eric Mininni.

The Blue Devils are also working to bring back the junior varsity team under district math teacher Jackie Thomann, who has been appointed by the Huntington School Board to coach the JV squad.

Torres has been recruiting players, an effort that is ongoing and will continue until the season officially begins on Monday, March 9. Any Huntington High School student who is interested in playing is encouraged to seek out either Torres (torresj@hufsd.edu) or Mininni (emininni@hufsd.edu) in the gym during the school day or to send them a message.

The coaches are committed to developing a winning program that will eventually challenge for championships. The district has made a commitment to the sport, including the purchase of new uniforms and related apparel, a new pitching/batting machine, three new windscreen panels for the backstop and an 80 foot long outfield fence windscreen that spells out Blue Devil Park, as the softball field has been designated.

A winter softball intramural program is planned for those in grades 9-12. The program will run in the Finley Middle School gym from 7:00-8:15 p.m. on the following dates: January 7, 8, 15, 20, 21, 27 and 28 and February 2, 4, 9 and 11. Attendance at all sessions is not required. Players can participate when it is convenient for them.

The school sponsored free intramural program will include general conditioning along with an opportunity to learn more about the sport of softball.

Participants should enter the gym area through the side rear doors at the loading dock area.
