Huntington Golf Aims to Defend Titles Amid Renovations
August 22, 2025
The Huntington High School golf team enters the new season with both excitement and uncertainty. The Blue Devils are the defending league and conference champions, but this fall they’ll be without the Huntington Crescent Club, their longtime home course, which is closing for major renovations.
Head coach Michael Marinello and volunteer assistant Bob Colvin have led Huntington to sustained success and recognize the significance of this year’s challenge. “The Crescent Club has been a second home for our players,” Marinello said. “It has always been a great home course advantage due to its difficulty, but I’m confident that the dedication that this team has shown over the summer has prepared them for the challenge.”
The Blue Devils return a young starting lineup that features Jack Corcoran, Will Donaghy, Graham Gooch, Brady LaCosta, Joey Perotti and Evan Persampire. This year’s group is junior-heavy, but thanks to the district establishing a JV golf program, these players arrive with valuable experience. That foundation has prepared them to step confidently into bigger roles, even after the team graduated four seniors last spring.
Snapshot profiles of the top golfers include:
Jack Corcoran has been sharpening his game all over New York, competing on the Met PGA circuit in preparation for the high school season and with the longer-term goal of playing college golf. Most recently, he qualified for the Metropolitan Tour Championship, shooting consecutive rounds of 75 and 72, a performance that underscores his talent and dedication.
Will Donaghy has also competed on the Met PGA circuit, consistently scoring in the high 70s, adding depth and experience to Huntington’s lineup.
Graham Gooch has shown his skill in tournament play as well, shooting an 80 at Crab Meadow Golf Course, highlighting his consistency and ability to compete under pressure.
Brady LaCosta has been equally active this summer, playing over 25 rounds and competing in the Junior Club Championship at the Crescent Club, gaining valuable tournament experience to carry into the high school season.
Evan Persampire got a job at Oyster Bay Golf Course, allowing him to play almost every day over the summer and continue improving his game ahead of the high school season.
Joey Perotti is an excellent athlete who has been steadily improving and is expected to make a strong impact this season, providing versatility and depth to the team’s lineup.
With the Crescent Club temporarily unavailable, the Huntington golf community has stepped up to help. “Huntington Country Club, Indian Hills Country Club, Pine Hollow Country Club, and Muttontown Country Club have all graciously agreed to host the Blue Devils’ home matches, ensuring the team has excellent venues to compete,” Marinello said.
With a talented, junior-heavy lineup the Huntington Blue Devils are ready to defend their league and conference titles. “Each player has put in the work over the summer, gaining valuable experience in tournaments and on competitive courses across New York,” Marinello said.
As the team heads into the new season, their focus is clear: to compete at the highest level, support one another and continue the tradition of excellence that defines Huntington golf.
