Blue Devil Field Hockey Ready for Practice Opener

August 18, 2025

The Huntington varsity field hockey team will take the field for its first day of official practice on Monday, August 25 at Blue Devil Stadium at 7:30 a.m. There is still time for players to sign up on Final Forms and to get cleared for the season.

Coached by Kathy Wright and Allison Conlon, last fall’s 22 player team went 9-7-1 and reached the Suffolk playoffs. “Our best accomplishment this season was to successfully come together as one team with the JV/varsity players and then to grow as one team and to make it to seventh place in Suffolk County and then to the second round of the playoffs,” Wright said.

Among the top returning players will be junior forward Caroline Mitek (6 goals; 8 assists) and senior defender Sofia Van Arsdale who were both named All County Honorable Mention following superb fall campaigns.

“Caroline has great stick skills and she’s able to finish in the circle,” Wright said. “Sofia started and played every entire game.”

Junior middie Sophie Hoffman (3 goals; 3 assists) notched All-Classification honors. “Sophie has such strong stick skills, transitioning with the ball up the field,” Wright said.

All-Division sophomore middie Ava Bencivenga (2 goals; 4 assists) was a flyer on corners and proved to be an impact player in every game.

Senior goalkeeper Kathleen Cocoman recorded 49 saves in the cage. Junior defender Elliot Manu was named All-Tournament and All-Academic. “She came up with amazing stops each game,” Wright said.

Key returnees also include Alexa Wasoski, Shea Gilroy, Norah Golden and Giana Anfolisi.
