Common App Boot Camp in August at HHS
August 1, 2025
If preparation is really everything then no Huntington High School senior planning on attending college following graduation in June 2026 should pass up an opportunity to attend this month’s Common Application Boot Camp.
Sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, August 11-13 will focus on the Common Application. Those who wish to participate can attend either Session I (10-11 a.m.) or Session II (12-1 p.m.) on either day.
A college essay workshop will be held on Thursday, August 14 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on both days.
“The College & Career Center is excited to host the College Prep Series, which will consist of two engaging workshops, College Application Boot Camp and College Essay Review,” said Bernadette Walsh, the high school’s college counselor. The Common Application boot camp will provide students with support in completing the Common Application as well as assistance matching Common Application and Naviance account.”
The College Essay Review will feature admission counselors from various colleges to provide feedback and suggestions on the essays.
“As a suggestion, you might want to create a ‘college only’ email address when registering for a Common App account,” Mrs. Walsh said. “A college only email address will eliminate the flood of emails sent from schools you may no longer be interested in or applying to.”
Mrs. Walsh will walk students through sections of the Common App, which is utilized by more than 1,000 colleges and universities.
“While I am running both workshops, the essay review will feature admission counselors from 12 colleges to critique essays and provide feedback and suggestions,” Mrs. Walsh said.
Students should bring a draft of their college essay on August 14.
